Welcome to the HIS 2070 Research Guide! This guide features resources available through Ryan Library, both in print and online, including ebooks, print books, journals, databases, websites, and primary sources. Some electronic content requires a PLNU username and password.  If you have any questions, contact librarian Robin Lang at rlang@pointloma.edu. 

Use this guide to locate:

Google:

• Use site: to search a particular website or domain (ex: site:nytimes.com ; site:.gov ; site:il)
• Date limiter: before:YYYY-MM-DD and after:YYYY-MM-DD
• Use "-" (the minus sign) to eliminate words; plus use AND/OR

Library Databases:

• Subject terms (available in EBSCO databases, but not in JSTOR)
• Other limiters: Author, title, publication date, peer reviewed
• Boolean operators: AND/OR/NOT
• Citation Mining: Use the Journals Directory

Both Google and Databases:

• Quotation marks around phrases of two words or more
• Cntl/Cmmd F (to search within webpages, PDFs, etc.)
• Use "*" (the asterisk) as a wildcard character to search for a root word and all its derivatives
