Welcome to the HIS 2070 Research Guide! Use this guide to locate:

• Websites(opens in a new tab)

• Books (electronic and print(opens in a new tab)

• Articles, Journals and Databases(opens in a new tab)

Google:

• Use site: to search a particular website or domain (ex: site:nytimes.com ; site:.gov ; site:il)
• Date limiter: before:YYYY-MM-DD and after:YYYY-MM-DD
• Use "-" (the minus sign) to eliminate words; plus use AND/OR

Library Databases:

• Subject terms (available in EBSCO databases, but not in JSTOR)
• Other limiters: Author, title, publication date, peer reviewed
• Boolean operators: AND/OR/NOT
• Citation Mining: Use the Journals Directory

Both Google and Databases:

• Quotation marks around phrases of two words or more
• Cntl/Cmmd F (to search within webpages, PDFs, etc.)
• Use "*" (the asterisk) as a wildcard character to search for a root word and all its derivatives
