STREAM Reading

STREAM reading is based on Dr. McGuire's effective reading strategies.

Survey the entire reading. Read headings, words in bold, and other highlighted information.
Think of at least 2 questions the reading seems likely to answer.
Read the first paragraph.
Explain the first paragraph to yourself in your own words.
Annotate. Write brief notes for the paragraph.
Move forward. Read the next paragraph and repeat the steps of explaining and annotating until you reach the end of the reading material.

Adapted from Dr. Saundra McGuire's SQ5R reading method.

Intense Study Sessions

Chart listing the steps of intense study sessions: plan for 1-2 minutes, study for 30-50 minutes, take a break for 10-15 minutes, review for 5-10 minutes, and repeat when you're ready.
